Quite a challenge this week, Jane.*
Altho the garden is awash in the prettiest yellow you can imagine, I realized again just how lacking my garden is in flowers to cut.
While the daylilies are going crazy [Hemerocallis 'Happy Returns'] and spreading their pale yellow sunshine all over, the hydrangeas are just beginning to open and about the only other flowers I have at the moment are in the pots I just made up and the small dahlias that I planted last weekend.
Hydrangeas it is! And a happy discovery: the first flush of alstromeria [Alstroemeria 'Sweet Laura' PP # 10030]. While they are way too orange for my taste, I love the flowers and they bloom with abandon all summer long. So in they went. Now, what to do to pull those two colors together? something burgundy... Loropetalum 'Pizazz' TM for my "greenery" and voila.
The more I looked at it, the less I liked it - all that dark golden yellow makes me think fall, not spring or summer. Another tour of the "fields" and I found a few things that more nearly meet my color needs!
A few coneflowers [Echinacea purpura], some pastel yarrow, the last of the primroses [Oenothera berlandieri 'Siskiyou'] and one lone purple salvia [Salvia nemorosa 'Marcus'] - this is a color grouping more to my liking!

Webb, I love them both. The first group looks so happy and summery, and well designed may I say.
ReplyDeleteAnd the second is light and lovely.
you really did it this time around:)
xo Jane
I love them both for so many different reasons. Feel free to send either to my house today:)
ReplyDeleteI love that first bunch! It looks so carefree, as if it's saying "we don't need to match to be perfect" Just lovely!
ReplyDeleteI have always been partial to wildflowers and that natural look. I love yarrow and always forget to put some in, must remember to do it.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice Monday. xo
They are both lovely, but I prefer the 2nd one. Thanks for sharing, have a lovely day, Linda x
ReplyDeleteI wish I had some of those sweet flower pickings from my plot! Fab arrangements. Sinead
ReplyDeleteLadies, how good you all are for my ego. Thanks for liking the "ugly" arrangement. It was so much fun seeing all of yours, too.
ReplyDeleteLove them both and I love the coneflower and yarrow together. I've tried a couple of times but the snails always eat my coneflower, still I can enjoy yours :) x
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for visiting and leaving a comment. I am a lucky girl, I know it. Have a wonderful day, love Linda x
ReplyDeleteI actually REALLY love hydrangeas and once planned an entire wedding around this time of year just so I could use them. That fiance didn't work out so well, but it didn't kill my love for the flower.
ReplyDeleteAlso my bushes in GA did their thing, but they did it while I was in El Paso with Neal for a week. :( Now it's about 110 degrees down there. Fortunately I have 2 lovely rose bushes up here to keep me company. ;)
Really nice collection of blooms you have there. I should add hydrangeas to my garden!
ReplyDeleteThe soft purple mix is quite nice. I'm sad that you don't like the bright yellow more! I love yellow mixes of flowers with sunflowers, moonshine yarrow, etc. Like a globe of sunshine in a vase.
