Tulips in the House

Tulips - one of my very favorite flowers, along with ranunculus, of course.

And, this is the time of year when both are available.

So, out of my comfort level this month.  You know that arranging flowers is not a skill of mine - altho it is one that I am hoping to develop.

I saw this in the April "Better Homes and Gardens" and loved it.
Directions were included.

My version looks like this!  White tulips, honeysuckle vine and 'Blue Moon' phlox.
Wish the directions had mentioned some moss to hide the oasis.  it would have looked nicer.
The left over tulips do well in a tall container.
And, did I mention ranunculus?  Not only are they available, but they are available on my back deck and next to my chair!
Life is good.

Thank you, Jane.  You have really challenged me this time.  Hope everyone will hop over to Small But Charming and see who else is home today.

  1. Webb, I love your arrangements! if you don't have any moss you could always stick little bits of boxwood around the edge to hide the oasis....

You know I never got one d#@n ranunculus to grow up here so I'm jealous and impressed by your output.

    Thanks for joining in.Now it's a party:-)

  2. Now that basket is COOL! It is like an Easter basket.

As for the leftover tulips …, you know my feelings about them :-) Love the ranunculus in that beautiful vase.

  3. I am not familiar with ranunculus, I wonder if they aren't hardy here in Wisconsin. We are a few weeks away from tulips here, but enjoyed yours. Spring is really coming after all.

    1. The ranunculus grow in California, Isreal and France - and i am sure lots of other places in the world ... just not here! I just love them and have tried and tried with no luck at all. Bought dish gardens full this year and put them in my planters!

  4. It's always fun to be inspired by something and then to go out of your comfort zone to try it! You did a great job with the basket arrangement. I adore your ranunculus arrangement. That vase is really unusual.

    1. Vase came from hubby - an impulse buy, of all things. I think from the grocery store, but have not asked questions of the Gift Horse.

  5. Ranunculus are just the best, aren't they? I love the way they unfold, so many layers. Well done on recreating the arrangement from the mag - looks great!

    1. And, they seem to last a long time in the vase. Am hoping for some taller ones once the weather is better. The wind seems to beat them up a lot.

  6. What an adorable arrangement, and I have that exact same dish. LOVE the branches twisted up to look like a basket handle. Sweet flowers in your house this week!

  8. Tulips! You're so lucky! Our snow is barely gone.

You're basket looks great. My floral arranging experience is limited to sticking flowers, stems and all, in a vase. Now I have a second idea...

    1. I am definitely a "flower sticker", too. Taking a class in arranging is definitely on my bucket list. You do realize that these tulips came from the store - right?

  9. What a delightful arrangement, and how bold of you to try something out of the ordinary. We grow ranunculus as an annual here in Minnesota (and Wisconsin, too, I'm sure), so it'll show up at garden centers in May. But for now, it's cut flowers from the shops for us.

    1. This is the first year I have seen it in the garden center - hope that continues. Apparently it does not like our heavy clay soil and humid summers.

  10. Love the tulips! My tulips are just beginning to bloom. I love ranunculus as well. I always forget to look for their bulbs.

    1. It might grow for you - your soil is more sandy than ours, I think, but it might not like your summer humidity. Try it and see.

  11. Kudos, Webb! Your tulip basket version is just lovely! The ranunculus are splendid! Have ranunculus on my list to learn more about. However, as you say, they may not favor our Southern heat and humidity. I may have to be content to enjoy the endeavors of others!

  12. Ranunculus are beautiful! I have a great many tulips but don't grow ranunculus. That is clearly a mistake.
