Where Did June Go?

Don't you just hate it when work interferes with life? I thought I had it pretty well figured out so that I had plenty of time for both, until June rolled around.

Normally I work at home, so I can start when I get up and work in my jammies until I need to go out or see someone. It's pretty easy to fit in a Jazzercise class a couple of mornings a week, and when the weather is good my laptop and I can work all day out on the deck. In June, tho, we had a major project going for a client that required my actual [dressed] presence at their locations for 12 days. And we worked most days from 6 a.m. until 5 or 6 or even 7 p.m. While it was tiring work, it was also fun and at the end of the day we all felt like we had made a difference.

The big problem, tho, was lack of sleep. Most days I was getting up an hour early, but sometimes it was two hours - remember my normal commute is 30 seconds! - to drive to the client's various locations. It took me the entire month to get used to it and the only good night's sleep I got in June was on the 29th, when I finally was able to fall asleep early and get my full seven hours!

Now that it's over and life is getting back to normal, I've been taking inventory of what I missed.

Russian spies among us - who knew? Apparently, no one! I love this story and can't wait to see next week's Time or Newsweek to get the details of their lives, but I already know about the Columbia MBA with the $140k income and the New York party girl. The guy who is loving this the most is Nelson DeMille. If you are a fan of spy thrillers and haven't read The Charm School, go find it in your local library. It's at least 20 years old, but this is the story of how they were trained. Always thought it was his best novel, and now I think this is proof!

Al Gore [may have] Groped a Masseuse. Not sure I want to go here. Normally I believe that women don't go thru the hell necessary to charge powerful men with misbehavior, so I tend to believe that there is fire when you get this kind of smoke.... but, I do have three questions:
1) Why was the masseuse down to her panties while providing a massage? As far as I know my masseuse stays fully clothed. In fairness, I do close my eyes for 99% of the time, so I guess s/he could disrobe when I am not looking, but somehow I doubt it. And...
2) Who saves dirty underwear for five years? I know this is a post-Monica world, but eeeuuuuwwwww!
3) Do we really believe the tabloids about anything?

How did we get from August back to May? The calendar says July, but the deck says May! If you have lived under a rock for the past 60 days you might not know that the entire east coast has had the hottest May and June in history. Three days over 100 degrees and weeks of heat and humidity in this little neck o' the woods. Then earlier this week ... poof! Gone. Unfortunately, I missed the entire first two days, but last night I played tennis at 80 degrees - heaven, sheer heaven! Still no rain, but one can't be too greedy and the cooler weather is supposed to last thru the holiday weekend, so it appears that Mother Nature does still love us.

Reading "my" Blogs. I read a prolific bunch of blogging ladies (and a few men) and I am way behind in reading. I've totally given up on commenting - just too many to think of doing it. I hope by the end of the weekend be caught up and maybe write a little something, too. Life is well on its way to being wonderful again.

  1. Glad you're back. German girl and I (she reads over my shoulder) always enjoy both your beautiful garden and your unique twist on the events of the day.

See your Russian spy report. Made me laugh aloud.

  3. We know you are out there, and we are glad you are enjoying the sunshine (even with a laptop). So are we, so we are less prolific.
Don't you like how I just speak for EVERYone? ;o)

  4. FlowerJane - have you checked all of YOUR neighbors. I hear that one couple was from "northern va". I was so thankful that it wasn't you and German Girl!

Savvy (why do I still spell it "saavy"? thank heaven for spell checker!) I till in the fields of business management. These days for a small partnership that does on-site health screenings and manages fitness centers - for the most part. I'm the utility infielder.

Miss Bender - YOU are welcome to speak for everyone. Hope the new job is what you hoped.

    Everyone: enjoy the weekend!

  5. Well...let's just say that I made the whole catch-up-on-commenting thing easy for you at M&M. I have NOT been prolific and so there is really not much to catch up on. You can thank me later. ;) And as a former massage therapist, I can tell you that I have NEVER stripped down to my underwear during a massage. EVER. Nor have I ever met someone who did. And I worked with a lot of them in couples' settings. I did work with one very creepy LMT, but he got fired shortly after. Even as creepy as he was, he did not strip down to his underwear during a massage.

Adding Charm School to my list of Must Reads for the summer. ;)

  6. I'm wondering where June went, too. We had a lot of rain and crazy summer storms that kept me out of the garden.
