.... or, The Baby is Born at Last!
"What's the difference between baking powder and baking soda?"
A benign question. Or, so I thought fifteen years ago when my then colleague paused in my doorway. The bachelor father of three girls, I thought maybe he was trying to fancy-up his cooking.
Wrong. He was trying to bake his own healthy snack bar. One of the healthy exercisers, he was famous (perhaps infamous) at work for watching every bite he put in his mouth, and only eating things that are "good for you".
Flash forward fifteen years. We still work together, altho today he is my boss and one of three partners in the company. Actually, now, two companies. We had to launch a new company a few months ago to handle the production of ... [here comes the Shameless Commerce part] ... triYUM Bars.
That's right. I work for a person who has actually developed a new food product. After 15 years of talking about it. Hundreds of recipes. Thousands of taste-tests. We have actually manufactured and are putting on the market [today!] a new healthy snack.
For years it was like playing. We learned about buying ingredients in bulk - "Did you want a ton? or a train-load, sir?" - and packaging - "Our minimum order is 500,000 wrappers. Do you need more than that?" - bar codes, semi-trailers - refrigerated, of course - getting an honest-to-goodness trademark, and marketing. It has been a roller coaster for me. I cannot imagine what it has been like for my boss. Well, I suspect like birthing a baby, about which I also know nothing, Miss Scarlett.
You won't see them on shelves at your super market. At least not yet. We are working on that! But, if you happen to be interested, you can find them online at www.triYumBar.com. And, that's the last we will say about that!
PS: Do not send complaints to Customer Service! Someone you know has to respond to those! Just sayin' ....
Dear customer service: Congratulations on the baby! Wow! I can only imagine the hoops one would have to jump through. I am going to check it out.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to be involved in a project like that! I think I am a born PM, and this would be right up my alley! Congratulations on your launch!
ReplyDeleteI took a very quick look at your website: looks nice and clean. Where can I find the ingredients? Being into health and endurance, I am a very picky shopper :-).
I wish you much success!
Never mind, got it. Did not dig deep enough.
ReplyDeleteVery Impressive! I'm so happy for you all. I can't wait to try one. It sounds like something I could use. By the way, you did say they tasted great, right? Elizabeth
ReplyDeleteYou were our second web customer - thanks.
DeleteWhat makes them different from all the "high protein bars" is that they taste great! Honest.
ReplyDeleteThis makes me think of Mad Men :-)
ReplyDeleteWow what an achievement it's fantastic when an idea becomes a tangible product. Will you be exporting to Europe?
ReplyDeleteDash, we are still learning to use UPS. Not sure when we will attempt customs and dutues,, but thanmks for asking.
DeleteThis is VERY exciting!!! I felt getting my website published was like birthing a baby so I imagine this is like birthing a baby and then raising it to become president of the United States. What a fantastic product and thanks for the link. You know the ever-health-conscious Neal will love these. He doesn't believe in granola bars because of the sugar content, but he definitely needs something he can eat on the run, especially at Army events where they are apparently trying to starve our military. Congratulations to you all. We're going to TryYum!
ReplyDeleteYou know we would love to have you as a. Customer.
DeleteHow cool is that!
ReplyDeleteIn France you have to by baking soda at the pharmacy. Weird, isn't it?
And I'll put one, shirtless Honey Jr in the post to you :)
Be still my heart!
