Wednesday Workday

It's here.  I can smell it; feel it; see it; even hear it.  Yes, it's definitely spring.
Two-thirds of the main bed is cleaned out, weeded and ready for mulch.
Poured rain last night.  Left the ground so wet I had to look hard for a place to work today.  No way to set a single foot in the actual beds, so just worked around the outside.
Anemones to go into this bed as soon as it's dry enough.
Three more days and I should be done with the fall clean-up and hopefully the weeding of winter weeds, too.
Candy tuft is starting to bloom.
But, one had only to look around a bit to see that the sap is rising in more than the trees.  Yes, indeed, spring is definitely creeping into Virginia.
Forsythia is starting to open, and the flowering almond and plum tree will not be far behind.

Hundreds, maybe thousands of mini-daffs have popped up.
Won't be long til we can sit on the deck and drink a bit of wine!

Wednesday Wintersday

No work was done today - at least not outside.
Like so many of you we are having a snow event.  Actually, it's more rain and snow.
Not much accumulation and plenty of rain to wash it away.
Warmer temps tomorrow and 60's by Sunday, so maybe this is winter's last hurrah.

A good day for soup in the slow cooker, don't you think.

Hope you are warm and well.

Wednesday Workday

Having passed up a walk in the park with my favorite six-month old gentleman [I'm keeping this cold to myself, thank you very much!], I still managed nearly an hour in the garden this afternoon.  It was 60 degrees in the sun and not very windy, so a most enjoyable reminder that in three or four more weeks we will have good gardening weather nearly every day.  And, at least one little reminder that spring is truly on the way.
It is pure clean up and clear out time for me.  Most of this work should have been done last fall. [I wonder if I will ever get the fall work done in a fall?]

I cleared this corner about 10 days ago on another warm afternoon.  Sadly we lost a buddelia over the winter, so I plan to put a new one in the center back of all this open space.
And, I cleared this corner today.
It's coming slowly, but a few more warm afternoons will help.

Ended up with enough warm time left to have a few sips of an adult beverage on the deck.

Life is getting better!

Hotty Totty

Hotty Totty?  oops!  That would be my niece, who is a graduate of Old Miss.
What I meant to say was ...

Hot Toddy.

We are sharing a case of mini-flu this weekend.  Mitchell has the congestion and cough, while I have the sore throat and achy body.  No one has claimed the high fever, thank goodness, so it's available if anyone wants it.

But, there is a cure - a sure fire Southern cure for this
particular malody.
The hot toddy.  Lovingly made with hot tea, lots of lemon (or lime if you must), honey and the best bourbon you are willing to waste on tea.  You will see that I did not pull out the sour mash.  Oh, no, my dears.  Never!
Elizabeth, my long time (notice, not "old") friend and college roommate, will attest that we cured many the coed of  laryngitis during rush with this medicine.

So I am taking it for medicinal purposes only.  Will celebrate Margarita Day (which was yesterday) as soon as I am feeling well enough for cold beverages.

Hope you are faring better this last weekend in the dismal month of February.  Time for a return to the Met on the radio.  Carmen today.
And, another sip of medicine.
