Spring is creeping in. I can feel it. I can see little tiny pieces of it. By next week I might have my own-grown flowers, but not today.
Today it's store-brought, and plain old alstroemeria. Actually, I love them, but 90% of the time it's what I buy. I did check for roses yesterday. They were all "soft", so I did not purchase.
Since it was my old standby, I wanted to try something more creative than "plop in the vase", so what I was going for was vertical and layers. This is close to what I had in mind, and at least it's a bit of creativity thought.
And, you know that I have a pot of spring bulbs this time of year. We have had these hyacinths for more than a week and they are still perfuming the entire house. Many of their ancestors from previous winters are starting to bloom in the garden ... as they will next year!
Please be sure to visit Jane at SmallButCharming. She is our hostess today, as she is every last Monday! Lots to see, so be sure to hop over there to find out what's blooming in other parts of the world.
Ah Webb, I love that color of hyacinths.
ReplyDeleteAnd between you and Belinda my own house is beginning to smell a bit sweet?
Totally correct with your alstro...love the layering.
You'll be filling in for holidays with me yet:-)
xo Jane
You are so sweet. One of these days I need to come take a mini-course from you. At least I am thinking about arranging!
DeleteThat is far from a plonk in a vase, looks lovely! I have the same hyacinths, what a scent! xx
ReplyDeleteI can almost smell the hyacinths. Your standby is very pretty too!
ReplyDeleteLove the Hyacinths, so pretty. The Alstromeria are such good value for money I always think, and what a lovely shade of pink. Love Linda x
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing to see how fresh flowers cheer you up when you are inside and it's blowing gales outside. Yours did it for me today. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you have a gale, but happy to help blow it away. When does Roadie come back? I'm anxious to know if she returns.
DeleteRoadie stays with us all winter, roosting in the horse barn. Thankfully it has been a mild winter because it is difficult finding insects and lizards during this time. I have seen 2 road runners in the yard recently, and I have heard a mournful cry from time to time (a come-hither) so I hope they will come and roost on the potting shed again.
DeleteOooooh! love in the potting shed! Great!
DeleteHa! I guess we're thinking alike with the alstromoeria; they're hard to beat. I can almost smell your hyacinth.
ReplyDeleteI was just saying how Hyacinth always remind me of Easter baskets and family on another flowers in the house post. They are just divine! And alstromoeria are one of those unsung grocery store flowers, right up there with carnations, but I love them both!

You make alstromeia look special in that vase!!!! Doesn't the hyacinth
ReplyDeletesmell like spring?
Would happily trade you altromeria for some ranunculus!
DeleteYour flowers are beautiful! I love alstomeia as well. They are always available and they last a nice long time. Bonnie
ReplyDeleteI love how you arranged the alstromeria, and the hyacinths are a delight.
ReplyDeleteI really need to get some flowers in to brighten things up :)
